Dallas – More Industries – More Jobs

It’s no secret that the state of Texas added more people to their state as residents in the last year. In fact, at last loose count, there are nearly one half million more people living in Texas than there was last year in 2008. The Brookings analysts suggest that shift could be that the migration of such places as Florida and California has slowed down because of their high unemployment rate. The state of Texas added more jobs than any other U.S. State in both October and November. The total of the two was 70,000 new part time jobs and full time jobs.

The increase in population in Texas was followed by California, North Carolina, and Georgia.

The reasons for the increased number of people who relocated to Texas are more than likely is because the state is so physically large and has a huge number of industries and pockets of opportunities that could be offering employment such as:

1. AT&T with its headquarters in Dallas. AT&T has provided scads of part time Dallas jobs and full time employment for a long time.
2. American Airlines, based in Fort Worth
3. Dell headquartered in Austin
4. Exxon in Irving

Fortune claims that more of the 500 largest companies in America are headquartered in Texas than any other state. No one may be guaranteeing jobs, but no state can claim such a diverse base of employers. Texas also has several of the largest cities in the US although most people would not guess that. Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston are large population centers, but San Antonio is bigger than Dallas. Austin and El Paso are among the twenty-five most populous cities in the country.

People are moving to Texas not because they have jobs, but because they think that they can find them. In all of those cities and towns, large corporations, oil field and technology centers, there has to be work for many of America’s unemployed.
