Make Sure You Have A Resume
High School jobs for students are really no different than any other type of employment. The student will want to have a resume to let the potential employer know that they are seriously looking for employment and if they have qualifications for the job they are seeking.
Let Others Know You’re Looking For A Job
Start by making a list of people you know. Get your parents to help you if they will. Instead of saying to other people, “I’m looking for an after school job, do you know of any openings?” To which they might automatically answer “no”. Say something like, “I’ve decided to look for a part time job that I can work after school. This will be my first real job. Do you have any suggestions that could help me? Dress For The Job
Of course, you probably already know to dress appropriately when you are interviewed. However, how you dress when you pick up or drop off your application is important too. If you’re applying at Arby’s, you don’t have to be dressed to the nines, however you do need to make sure your clothes are clean and that you look neat. Don’t wear shorts or T-shirts. A nice shirt and Khakis are just fine.
Send A Thank-You Note
Once you have an interview, even if you don’t feel you want that particular job, send a thank you note. This doesn’t have to be long and drawn out. A simple note will do. If you have trouble with this, ask your parents or high school counselor to proof read your first thank you note.
The above are relatively simple things to do and have. Each one of them is extremely important. The most important thing you can show a potential employer is that you are willing to learn, eager to work, and have determination and the confidence to represent their company favorably.
